Last Sunday was an historic day for all involved in the club as we competed in a Munster championship for the very first time. Players and supporters made their way to host club Knockaderry in Co Limerick to take on Waterford champions Rathgormack in the Munster Junior B Football Championship Quarter Final.
In very testing conditions Grange played some excellent football in the first half and had opened up a 1- 7 v 0-3 lead at half time. Noel Barry slotted over some fine scores from frees following massive work rate from Colin Scott, Niall McCarthy and Kurt Wheeler in the half forward line.
The goal came from the back with Kevin Murphy breaking out of defence and delivering a long ball into the half forward line, play quickly switched across the half forward line which led to a shot by Noel Barry that was fumbled by the keeper and Alan McNamara duly obliged and tapped it in.
Grange played against the elements in the second half and in worsening conditions displayed great determination, courage and skill against a very persistent Rathgormack team to hold on for a narrow victory on a scoreline of 1-7 v 0-9. Well done to all the players and mentors and thanks to all who travelled in support.
We now advance to the Munster Semi Final v Killenaule of Tipperary. This game is fixed for Sunday 8th December at 2pm in Knockaderry weather permitting.
